Dwight D. Eisenhower Signed Baseball on Steiner Auctions Block

July 17, 2026 – July 29, 2026 NY, New York

About this festival

New York, July 17 ? A baseball signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower is one of the lynchpin memorabilia pieces from the collection of fabled Brooklyn Dodgers third baseman Cookie Lavagetto on the auction block in Steiner Auctions Mid-Summer Classic auction. Other collectibles on the block include a Richard Nixon signed baseball, as well as Cookie's game-used glove from the 1940-s. His son Ernie has put the memorabilia up for bids in the Mid-Summer Classic Auction, which continues through July 29th. Visit steinerauctions.com to bid and for more details. A Brooklyn Dodgers team autographed baseball that includes signatures of such immortals as Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese, Lavagetto-s 1948 Oakland Acorns Pacific Coast League Championship ring, his Silver Lifetime Pass presented by Major League Baseball, an autographed Honus Wagner photograph, and a baseball signed by legendary manager Casey Stengel are also up for grabs. Lavagetto is perhaps best known for breaking up the no-hitter of Yankees pitcher Bill Bevens in Game 4 of the 1947 World Series at Ebbets Field with two outs in the ninth inning, in what became known as the ?Cookie Game.? Lavagetto-s first professional team was the Oakland Oaks in his hometown, where he was tagged with the nickname ?Cookie? after one of the team-s owners. He then played 10 seasons in the National League with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1934-36) and most notably with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1937-41 and 1946-47, missing four seasons serving in the United States Navy during World War II). He finished his career returning to the Oaks for two seasons (1948-50). Lavagetto later managed in the majors with the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins. In all, more than 1,000 pieces of memorabilia are on the block. New York Yankees rookie sensation Aaron Judge blasted a homerun in his first Major League at-bat last August 13th, and that game-used jersey worn by the All-Star outfielder spearheads the multitude of baseball memorabilia. The current bid on the uniform No. 99 Judge jersey from his debut is $21,438. A bevy of immortal All-Star collectibles are on the block including the legendary Mickey Mantle, whose 1957 All-Star Game Used and Signed Bat has a current bid $48,721, as well as Ty Cobb (Rare Bold Sweet Spot Signed Official American League baseball), Carl Yastrzemski (Rawling-s Career 7-Time Gold Glove Award), Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (Dual Signed Official American League Baseball), just to name a few. A baseball signed by 18 iconic All-Stars including Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, Stan Musial, Tom Seaver and 10 other greats is sure to spark spirited bidding.
