Applications due on or before Feb. 1, 2009. If requesting lodging, apply early. Onsite lodging is limited. Participation Requirements: Submit by January 24 up to 3 original stories that could be adapted into play form. Workshop leader, Rebecca Ryland will select one of the stories to be developed into play form during the workshop. No application accepted without receipt of stories in advance. Description: Editor of Heartland Plays, Inc., an online publishing company of plays and drama products, will lead participants in adapting original stories into play form while coaching writers on developing strong plot or character driven dramatic works. In addition, each participant will write a 2 minute/ 2 page play with the opportunity to submit the work in Heartland Plays 2 minute/2 page play competition. Heartland Plays, Inc. is committed to promoting the work of playwrights living outside New York and L.A. and is actively soliciting work by new and emerging playwrights to build its catalog of quality plays for Small Professional, Community, Educational and Children-s Theatre. This workshop retreat is an excellent opportunity for writers to try their hand a adapting their original stories into plays andmeeting directly with the publisher to have work considered without an agent.
