About this festival
It was a ?super? Sunday for Fairfield! The Stags completed a sweep of a hoops doubleheader at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport as Super Bowl 50 was about to kick off.
The Fairfield men-s team (13-11, 7-7 MAAC) finished the twin bill dominance, downing arch New York rival Manhattan (9-12, 6-6 MAAC) in the nightcap.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Fairfield women-s squad (13-10, 8-6 MAAC) turned back Siena (12-12, 9-5 MAAC), 67-55, for their fifth straight victory.
Thirteen was the day-s lucky number as both reached the 13-win total for the season.
For the men, Stags' freshman Curtis Cobb led the way with 20 points, and fellow rookie Matija Milin had 19 points and nine rebounds. Fairfield's rookies ? the ?Fab 4? - combined for 59 of the team's 80 points. Jerry Johnson, Jr. chipped in with 11 points, and Jonathan Kasibabu had 9.
It was the sixth time this season that Cobb had Fairfield-s game scoring high ? the last four were wins - including his career best 25 in the January 29 win over Canisius.
Fairfield evened the season's series against the Jaspers after a heart-wrenching, 72-66, loss in a riveting contest on January 2 at Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale. Fairfield put an end to a two-game skid heading into the final six games of the season.
In the women-s opener, Kristine Miller scored 11-straight team points to turn a three point deficit into a four point advantage en route to the Stags seventh victory in their last eight games.
Kristin Schatzlein paced the Stags with 22 points, equaling a personal best. Miller-s career-high tying 14 points was a major contribution off the bench.
The women, also with six games left on the schedule, try for their sixth straight victory on Friday night at Alumni Hall against St. Peter-s.
