February 1, 2026 Bridgeport, CT

About this festival

The Fairfield University (12-9, 6-5 MAAC) men-s basketball team is in quest of its fourth straight win when the Stags host Quinnipiac University (6-13, 3-7 MAAC) at Webster Bank Arena tonight (Monday, February 1). Tip-off is at 7:00 PM, SNY will televise the simulcast on WVOF Radio (88.5 FM) with ?Voice of the Stags?Bob Heussler painting the word picture, and Fairfield great Joe DeSantis providing expert commentary. ESPN3 will also broadcast. The Boston area duo of freshman Curtis Cobb (10.1 ppg), who poured in a career-high 25 points, and sophomore Tyler Nelson (16 ppg), who scored 22, catapulted Fairfield to its third in a row defeating Canisius (10-12, 4-6 MAAC), 84-77‎, on Friday night (January 29) at Webster Bank. Nelson (Bradford, MA/Central Catholic) and Cobb (Fall River, MA/Wilbraham & Monson) each hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win, leading the Stags to the comeback triumph after trailing by as many as eight points in the second half. Both have flourished in starting roles. Fairfield senior and leading scorer Marcus Gilbert (18.1 ppg) hit four straight from the foul line prior to Nelson and Cobb putting an exclamation point on the victory. The Stags' 12th win of the season under head coach Sydney Johnson is five more than Fairfield recorded all of last year. ‎Fairfield is 12-6 in the last 18 games after the 0-3 start to the season. New England has proven fertile recruiting ground for coach Johnson with a third Boston area standout, freshman Jerry Johnson, Jr. prepping at Notre Dame Prep School by way of Memphis, Tenn. Starting shooting guard Nelson has been on fire in Fairfield-s last eight victories, scoring over 20 points in each of the triumphs. Last year-s MAAC All-Rookie selection out of Branford has led the Stags in scoring on six occasions, all Fairfield victories, including a 27-point, career-high outburst against Niagara on January 15. Fairfield-s ?Fab Four? rookies are spearheaded by Cobb (9.4 ppg), who poured in a then-career high 21 points to lead Fairfield to the January 22 road victory over Marist. Cobb is third on Fairfield-s scoring leader board in the starting lineup. For ticket information, contact the Fairfield Athletics Ticket Office at [email protected] or (203) 254-4136.
