January 11, 2026 Bridgeport, CT

About this festival

The Fairfield University men-s basketball team continues its play against New Jersey MAAC conference teams tonight (Tuesday, January 11) when it hosts Monmouth at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Fairfield (8-7/2-3) will try to pull off the upset against the high-flying Hawks (11-4/3-1). Tip-off is at 7:00 PM and WVOF Radio (88.5 FM) will broadcast, with Bob Heussler, the longtime ?Voice of the Stags,? calling the action. ESPN3 and SNY will televise. On the first game against Garden State opponents on Saturday, sophomore guard Tyler Nelson scored 20 points and senior forward Marcus Gilbert registered a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards as Fairfield won 69-64 at Rider (4-12/0-5) in the MAAC match-up on Saturday. The contest was deadlocked at 62-62 with 1:01 left in the game, when Fairfield head coach Sydney Johnson called a time out. Gilbert nailed a three-pointer from the top of the arc on a set play to put the Stags on top, 65-62. With 45-seconds left in regulation, Gilbert and Nelson both hit a pair of free throws to seal the win. The Hawks posted upsets of UCLA, USC and Notre Dame earlier in the year. Monmouth reopened MAAC play with a pair of wins over Canisius and Quinnipiac at home to move to 3-1 in the league. Justin Robinson leads the way, averaging over 20 points per game. Fairfield is 5-1 at home this year behind 19.5 points per game from Marcus Gilbert, and has won four of six games. MU is 3-1 in MAAC games vs. Fairfield.
