Buoyed by the highest scoring output in the five-year tenure of head coach Sydney Johnson, the Fairfield University men-s basketball team trounced Maryland Eastern Shore in a 113-74 road runaway win on Tuesday night (November 24) at the William P Hytche Athletic Center in Princess Anne, Md.
Senior Marcus Gilbert scored a career-high 32 points, including five 3-point field goals, to lead the arsenal. Sophomore Tyler Nelson put forth an impressive line with 20 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in a nifty performance. The rookie Jerry Johnson, Jr. had 19 points.
The convincing victory lifted the Stags record to 2-3 with a two-game win streak following the 0-3 start. Fairfield shot 57 percent from the field and hit 17 three-point field goals.
Fairfield's previous scoring high during Johnson's regime as head coach was 85 points.
The Stags, after digesting their Thanksgiving Day turkey dinner, will try to reach the .500 mark on Friday night,November 27, when hosting Columbia on the recently-dedicated George R. Bisacca Court at their on-campus home at Alumni Hall at 5:00 p.m. The contest begins the three-game ?Legacy Series? at Alumni Hall. (Fairfield plays all other home games at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport). In addition to Friday-s contest against the Lions, Fairfield will be in action at Alumni Hall on Monday, January 4 against Dartmouth (7 p.m.) and Tuesday, January 19 for a visit from MAAC opponent Saint Peter-s (7 p.m.).
