Reflekt Polarized Big Shot Volleyball Coming to Siesta Key
The $75,000 Reflekt Polarized Big Shot Volleyball Series, presented by Spalding, will bring beach volleyball players from throughout the US and Canada to Siesta Key October 25-26 for the final tournament in the 2014 season. The tournament last year brought 200 teams from 20 states and Canada to Siesta Key. Over $3,000 in prize money will be awarded in the final event of the year.
Top players from throughout East Coast will be playing in Siesta Key starting at 9 am Saturday morning including Tampa-s Matt Henderson, Dunedin-s Justin Phipps and Czech player Peter Doubravsky who is playing in Florida for Webber University-s Men-s Beach Volleyball team.
Top female players will include Polish star Karolina Sowala (also representing Webber University) and her partner Priscilla Piantosi-Lima who has finished as high as 2nd on the Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.
The tournament is sanctioned by Volley America, the largest grass roots program in the US. Volley America offers tournaments, clinics and leagues creating opportunities for players of all levels to improve their game.
Players of all skill levels will be eligible for play in the tournament co-sponsored by Rider Sandals. There will be divisions for intermediate and novice level players, who will be competing for merchandise prizes from Reflekt Polarized Sunglasses, Spalding, 4C Totally Light, Rider Sandals, Sprout Watches, Bally-s Casino, ZEMgear, SOB Volleyball Vacations, Karch Kourts net systems, Dig Magazine, Sports Authority, Horry County, Spike Key, Volley America and South Shore Outdoors.
Tournament play will start at 9 am on Saturday and 10 am on Sunday. Player check in is one hour prior to start time. Men's and Women's Open, AA, A, and B Divisions will play on Saturday. Coed Open, AA, A, and B teams will play on Sunday.
Admission is free for all spectators who are encouraged to come early for a front row seat. A player-s party open to the public, will be held Saturday evening at The Boatyard Bar & Grill at the south bridge onto Siesta Key. Volley America is the largest grass roots organization in the US for beach volleyball players and organizers: over 15,000 dues paying members from 40 states and 38 volleyball organizers. Volley America runs a national ranking system used to seed all tournaments as it promotes beach volleyball throughout the US. About East End Volleyball
East End Volleyball has been organizing beach volleyball tournaments for 38 years since 1977. Based in the East End of Long Island, EEVB has grown into the largest beach volleyball series in the East End of the country with tournaments from Newport, RI to Hollywood, Florida. Sanctioned by Volley America, EEVB runs over 35 events for 5,000 plus players. The highest level in the tournaments, the Open Division, is equivalent to AAA Baseball and funnels players into the Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. Three players in the 2012 London Olympics representing 3 countries (US, Great Britain & Canada) won EEVB tournaments in their careers.
