About this festival
The Mountain Heritage Pow wow is an educational event to teach the public about the history and culture of the Native American people. There will be dancing, drumming, singing, flint knappers, vendors with handcrafted items, two lodges, demonstrators, story tellers, Native food vendors and more for you to enjoy.
You will be allowed to take part in the dancing and some of the demonstrations. Listen to our different story tellers spin tales of long ago. Enjoy a buffalo burger or Indian taco, with a powdered sugar fry bread for dessert. Just have fun doing anything you want to.
Admission is $5 for Adults and $2 for cxhildren. Friday is Kids Day and children are admitted FREE with the schools.
Hours are from 8 to 9 on Friday, 9 to 9 on Saturday and 10 to 5 onunday.
Directions from Asheville, take I-26 north to Exit 9 and follow US 19E approximately 20 miles to the Micaville Loop (exit for Mt. Mitchell). The event is at the Mountain Heritage Expo Center in the Old Taylor Togs Building at 621 Micaville Loop. From the north, take US 19E south approximately 10 miles south of Spruce Pine to the Micaville Loop (exit for Mt. Mitchell) at the junction of US 19E and Hwy 80 South.
