About this festival
As Cinco de Mayo continues to grow as one of Omaha-s premier events, it comes with tremendous effort and a great deal of hours to prepare one of the region-s largest parade and festival?Every year an estimated 40,000+ people streamed into the South Omaha community to experience a 3-day cultural enclave of family fun for everyone?parade, carnival, food, entertainment, vendors, contests and kids- activities.
Demographics
As Cinco de Mayo is held in the heart of South Omaha on 24th and 25th streets from L to O, it reigns as one of Omaha-s main events for Latinos and the community-at-large. This event compares to no other when it comes to the Latino market. In 2010, the majority of the attendees were of Latino decent (80%) with the majority of coming from first-and second-generation Mexican immigrants. The majority of the attendees came from Eastern Nebraska (South Omaha) and Western Iowa although there were spectators that came in from a 200-mile radius from other Midwestern States such as Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas and Missouri.
