About this festival
Legendary songwriters/producers, Edward and Brian Holland will be the Keynote Speakers at the upcoming Songwriters In Paradise (S.I.P.) writers retreat in the US Virgin Islands. The event is scheduled for October 10-17, 2010, at the beautiful Divi Carina Bay Resort and Casino.
Eddie and Brian Holland are two-thirds of the celebrated songwriting team, Holland-Dozier-Holland. Their songs were recorded by The Supremes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and others, making Holland-Dozier-Holland songs among the most memorable in pop history. The trio wrote and arranged many of the songs that typified the Motown sound and dominated American popular music in the 1960s. As a team, H-D-H wrote and produced over 400 songs including 25 # 1 hit singles. The Supremes alone took 13 H-D-H tracks to the top of the charts! After leaving Motown, they started their own labels, Invictus and Hot Wax Records, and continued to write and produce hits including "Give Me Just a Little More Time" by the Chairmen of the Board, "Band of Gold" by Freda Payne, and "Want Ads," a #1 hit for Honey Cone.
They continue to be recognized for their musical contributions, and have received a BMI Icon Award, Grammy Trustees Award, Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Songwriters, and have been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Songwriters In Paradise is the inaugural event of The ?In Paradise? Retreat Series, founded by multi-award winning music publisher and visionary, Gigi de Lugo, a fourth generation Virgin Islander. Not only does Gigi look forward to welcoming the music community to her island home, but she is working to create significant educational opportunities and long term cultural and economic benefits for the people of the Virgin Islands through her program series. ?What is unique about this series,? she explains,? is that you won-t just be enjoying the beautiful tropical location, you will be making a significant contribution to the people who live and work there while also having the chance to interact with our island-s music pioneers ? a priceless experience that I believe will generate life-changing relationships for all concerned.?
The event will feature personal mentoring for songwriters, group sessions, workshops and industry panels. Many of the events will be broadcast live via Livestream to allow audiences in the Caribbean and around the world to share in many of the S.I.P. events and others will be filmed for future broadcast distribution & DVD.
The event will be kicked off with the ?Red Carpet On The Beach? opening gala featuring an international slate of performers. Sponsors include Divi Carina Bay Resort & Casino, Cruzan Rum, The V.I. Economic Development Authority, Tropic Heat Studios, Barnes/West Productions, plus more to be announced.
