About this festival
Henry ?Pucho? Brown, timbales player and bandleader combines jazz, Latin music, soul and funk into his eclectic Latin jazz performances with his Latin Soul Brothers. He began recording in 1963 and cut over 6 albums for the Prestige label. He helped to pioneer the Latin boogaloo style that mixes jazz, New York style Latin music, R&B/soul, and James Brown funk. The band has an active percussion section featuring timbales, congas, and bongos. In the early ?70s, Latin jazz fusion was out of style, and he was a frequent performer of traditional Latin jazz at the Catskill resorts: A Bethel Woods performance is, in some ways, a return to his touring roots. In the ?90s, his back catalogue generated great interest in Great Britain, and he was and has remained a strong touring act with the acid jazz crowd (a style of jazz incorporating funk and hip hop).
