About this festival

Art of I.O.N; Sea/light paintings by Susan Lawrence, Organic mixed media paintings by Jeffrey Nemeroff, Mixed media lifescapes by IONE, Green Sculptures by Randy Oldrieve, Ceramics and vertebrate paintings by Linda Smith, Realist charcoal drawings by Dan Pyle, morphing videos by Melanie Manos and Self portraits oils by Jerry Shawback An ion (Gr. Ano, meaning ?up?) is a molecular particle of diverse kinds. In Greek history, Ion was the son of XUTHUS hence the historical region of costal Asia Minor is known as Ionia. The philosopher Thales, as well as his successors, is credited with the origin of a scientific approach to nature with a philosophical and interpretive bent. Our artists approach nature with this same desire to interpret that which they see in terms of personal understanding which they translate into various media. Using inspirations of the seas, one cell organisms to other living creatures including man the artists use their powers as much as ions. The category known as radical ions are very retroactive. These works of art are, in a philosophical sense, ?ionized? in a very reactive way. However it is we, the viewers, who react to these powers discharged. The artist attempts to depict ?that which goes beyond? using their media to entrap the essence of nature. That is what constitutes this exhibition. The French speak of ?Nature Mort?. We express it as ?Nature Vivre?. Tony Clark Curator
