About this festival
Jazz in the Garden, the popular outdoor concert series presented for the 43rd consecutive year by The Newark Museum, has announced its 2008 star-studded line-up beginning Thursday, June 19 and continuing every Thursday afternoon from 12:15 to 1:45 pm through August 7. A favorite of area residents and downtown Newark office employees enjoying a respite from their working day, Jazz in the Garden concerts are performed in the Museum’s award-winning Alice Ransom Dreyfuss Memorial Garden. In the event of rain, performances move inside to the Museum’s Billy Johnson Auditorium. Visitors may purchase lunch at the Museum Café or bring their own. Admission to Jazz in the Garden is a suggested donation of $2 for adults and $1 for seniors. Members and children are admitted free. The series kicks off with veteran free-jazz saxophonist David Murray and his Black Saint quartet. The following session features vibraphonist Joe Locke. Visit the Museum's Web site, newarkmuseum.org, for full schedule information.
