About this festival
2009 High Plains Rally Electric Car Race presented by FHSU Technology Studies Departments - High school teams made up of students from Kansas, Nebraska & Colorado race electric-powered cars of their own design and compete for trophies in this annual event. The cars are designed and built from the ground up by the high school students using lightweight materials, aluminum frames and bicycle wheels. The course is a quarter mile route and it is a road course design with twists and turns and at least one area that rises and falls sharply. In the Experimental Class, the racers have been successful in completing 80 to 90 laps. The largest number of entries are in the Standard Class where the drivers attempt to get 60 or more laps from their car and the past winners have gone the distance with 90 or more laps in the allotted time of 60 minutes. The general public is invited to attend this FREE event at West Frontier Park and enjoy of day of electric car racing.
